Why Construction Workers Quit
Why do construction workers quit—even when they want to learn, work hard, and build a career? Sometimes the problem isn’t finding good people. It’s what happens after they show up. After reading over a thousand comments on my video about declining construction skills, one thing stood out: people who genuinely wanted to learn the trades were walking away. As a construction superintendent, I believe we need to talk honestly about why. From missing mentorship and unrealistic schedules to disrespect and jobsite hazing, we can’t keep saying “nobody wants to work” without looking at the environment we’re asking people to work in. This isn’t about blaming younger workers, older tradesmen, or every construction company.
